Napkins drawn by Nina Levy for her sons. Daily for 10 years. Now that the kids eat in the school cafeteria: merely occasionally, not daily, but we are stuck with the name.

Zak Saturday and Komodo
About once every six months, Ansel is reminded how much he likes the series "The Secret Saturdays."
And once every six months, I am reminded that there is really nothing plausible for me to do with Zak Saturday's hair. I drew his face and his pet/ family friend Komodo, the Komodo dragon, in a more realistic manner, but Zak's two toned hair really defies intervention.
Ansel's summer program is over at noon, so he is technically not taking a packed lunch to camp these days. But he was feeling a bit napkin deprived, and felt that he needed to demonstrate what the napkins looked like to the people he hangs out with from 8 to 12. I guess this napkin is just going along for a morning snack.

Hamster and Komodo Dragon With Cookies
Our sons are entranced by the idea of Komodo dragons. I'm not sure the reality would be so appealing. Our older son did a class project on Komodos last year and is still a self-proclaimed authority. His younger brother's interest was suddenly revived yesterday, leading to a request.
I felt inexplicably compelled to include Fluffy. Briefly, I contemplated some sort of lion taming pose, taking advantage of the often pictured gaping Komodo maw, but decided I did not want to be accused of imperiling the celebrity Hamster.
I posed Fluffy away from the Dragon maw, and gave her a vegetarian food offering to hold, trying to keep her from looking too much like a tasty morsel herself.
Below, a gaping Komodo, ready to swallow a Hamster and then some.

Teen Titans Robin and Komodo Dragon
I attempted to redeem my indulgent mother cred this morning by drawing the taller Titans version of Robin hanging out with an oversized komodo dragon. (And more persuasively- by downloading the episode from iTunes)
His fourth grade brother is working on a report on komodos, so they are Ansel's favorite animal this week. Archer was colossally disappointed to discover that komodo's bites are supposedly only as strong as that of a house cat. I don't think he has told Ansel this yet, so komodos are still cool in Kindergarten.

Zak and Komodo from The Secret Saturdays
Over the last week, Ansel discovered how much he likes "The Secret Saturdays" a Hanna-Barberaesque series that ran from 2008-2010 about the adventures of a family of cryptozoologists and their cryptids pals. Ansel's purported favorites are 11 year old Zak and Komodo the genetically altered Komodo dragon, but I am guessing that the main female character Drew who sports a skin tight jumpsuit, thigh high black boots, and torpedo shaped breasts, is a draw also.
He was most annoyed to hear that the series has been out of production for three years and it is very unlikely that there will be any additional seasons of episodes.
