Rocket Raccoon and Future Rigby Take a Selfie

Happiness is a cool raccoon with a warm gun. Or two.

The kids were very pleased with the recent Regular Show Movie.
Rigby, the raccoon character, has apparently become more cool in the future.  He is outfitted with an impressive weapon, stylish jacket and decorative facial hair.

He looked a bit like Rocket from the Guardians of the Galaxy... (Rocket Raccoon, the guy who says, "There ain't no thing like me, except me.") ....So it seemed like a team up was in order. I drew the guys without their weapons...and since they are both so overwhelmingly cool- and so aware of their own coolness- it seemed appropriate that they should be taking a picture of themselves.

My more realistic version of Rigby was not very successful. I was trying to put him in the same representational universe as Rocket, but couldn't quite pull it off.

Thanksgiving Threesome

Not one of my better efforts in the canines in costumes genre, but it was trying to be a slightly less disturbing rendition of the Regular Show's three costumed Thanksgiving thugs. They steal the last frozen turkey and explode a car during a high speed chase.

These dogs just look like they are having a tiresome day.

Rocket Raccoon from "Guardians of the Galaxy" makes a proposal to Rigby from the "Regular Show."

Our sons enjoy these two characters far too much.

"Dude! Watch out, we're going to fall off!"

Episodes of "Regular Show" usually take a turn for the weirdly implausible somewhere around the midpoint, so the idea of Mordecai and Rigby riding on a dragon is no more unreasonable than most of their adventures.

While our sons may not want to be the slackers from "Regular Show" as much as they would like to be Hiccup, Rigby and Mordecai's behavior is certainly influential.

My sons are just not quite willing to accept that so many of their favorite characters are voiced by one person, Mark Hamill.

Watching "Regular Show" with my kids offers many opportunities to discuss important topics like sex, drugs, insulting one's mother and bad behavior in general... particularly when Muscle Man is involved. There has been a little bit of imitation of undesirable behavior from the show- waving one's shirt around while yelling being one of the more irritating yet basically harmless examples.  

I felt I had to play down Muscle Man's man breasts and issue a disclaimer about his actions to make this one pass muster for school lunch.  As it is the end of the week and we are out of sequence due to missed school from Sandy, this one may not make it to Quaker Kindergarten anyway.

Who is the rudest animated character?  Based on recent exposure to old episodes of the Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror" my sons agreed that Bart might outdo Mordecai and Rigby.  They still prefer the Regular Show guys nonetheless.

The Not So Evil Dead bring fruit for Kindergarten lunch:

Zombies just never lose their charm for my sons.

They particularly enjoyed the "Grave Sights" episode of "Regular Show" where the regular characters use sports equipment to efficiently dispatch the malicious undead in a scene strangely reminiscent of "The Evil Dead"

The meeting of two sets of unfortunate TV role-models for my sons:  

My kids have an inexplicable and disturbingly persistent affection for all the iterations of "Scooby Doo"  The Regular Show is a more recent pleasure which make me appreciate the simplicity of the former.  

Trying to imagine a meeting between the dated pseudo beatniks and the snarky contemporary slackers, I could only conjecture that Mordecai and Rigby are not buying whatever their predecessors are selling.
