Samurai Millie

Samurai Millie

Various social media outlets recently alerted me to the fact that I can now purchase samurai armor suitable for pets....if we had any pets that were willing to wear such outfits.

An avid knitter during my childhood, I made more that one cat sweater for my disgruntled, curmudgeonly cat, Muffin. If I could manage to actually get the sweater on, she would promote collapse on the floor as if mortally wounded and refuse to move until the wretched abomination was removed. I can only imagine the enthusiasm with which she would have greeted a suit of cat sized samurai armor.

Perhaps my sons' uncle and aunt's good natured dog Millie would be more amenable.

But luckily for her, I only imagined her wearing the armor.

Millie and Tigger Flanked by The Grinch and Rudolph

Millie the dog and Tigger the cat live with our pet deprived children's aunt and uncle.
This napkin was a misguided attempt at a holiday gift for said aunt and uncle.  I figured as long as I was nagging the kids to make holiday cards, I ought to set a good example.

As you can see, bizarre creepiness ensued.  Of course last year I drew a fruitcake bearing sleigh being pulled by cockroaches for a Christmas present for my mother, so it is perhaps not a surprise that the result this year was also a bit off. (Link to roach/reindeer sleigh here)

Ansel looked at this today as I was finishing it and told me sympathetically that he thought that the Grinch's facial expression was a mistake.  I told him he was absolutely correct... (although there are several other things that also contribute to the image's weirdness...perhaps too many for me to further discuss here. )

Ansel had just finished having a tantrum because he felt he had messed up the drawings on his cards. And thus, I had a wonderful opportunity to model how to behave graciously in the face of drawing failure.

Ansel's much nicer version of Rudolph.

Millie As A Viking Dog

Our dog deprived younger son is always rather happy to see his aunt and uncle's dog Millie.
And he told me several times yesterday that he is "into Vikings."
Thus we have the Viking dog.

Archer took a look at the napkin this morning before his brother was up and said, "Oh, I don't think Ansel is going to approve that one."
He did...although not happily.

Laser Pet Battle

What do your pets do when you are not home?

Much to my sons delight, their aunt and uncle have recently adopted Millie the puppy.  The preexisting pet, and  older cat named Tigger, is understandably not so thrilled about the situation.

Conversation at dinner last night with Aunt Andi kept cycling back to relations between the two animals and how they must interact when humans are not around.  The boys fantasized that the puppy should have a laser sword and the cat laser claws to work out their differences.

Aunt Andi replied that she is a responsible pet owner and does her best to keep lasers away from her animals as consistently as possible, so this image is not particularly realistic.

Canine Pirate

Ansel was not much impressed with my attempt at a dog pirate.  No weapons and no abdominal muscles.  What was I thinking?

Millie the Dog

Our kids' aunt and uncle brought over their newly adopted effusively cute puppy last night to visit our dog deprived sons.

Ansel absolutely adores dogs, and the pressure to have a winsome canine of our own continues to rise.  But our sons can barely dress themselves on demand, let alone participate in the care of a living creature... As much as I like pets, my caregiving abilities are already maxed out keeping the kids alive.  And last, but certainly not least, my husband is allergic to most things with fur.

So, the best we are going to do for today is Millie on a napkin.
