Raggy and Femur From Ben Hatke's "Zita"

The kids were pretty enthusiastic about reading the recently arrived third installment of Ben Hatke's "Zita" graphic novel."

Among Zita the space girl's many pals in the book is this character: a charismatic team-up made of two aliens who respectively look like a pile of rags- "Raggy" and a skeleton- "Femur."

Migo from "Broxo" for Ansel

 

Migo from Zach Giallongo's "Broxo" appearing today without a rider as per my son's specific instructions. He accepted the addition of the strawberry with relatively good humor.  Unfortunately not as good a likeness of Migo, but a more convincing piece of fruit than usual.

Ansel is entranced by Zack Giallongo's new book "Broxo"- particularly with the title character's giant, toothsome companion/pet Migo. This morning, he was annoyed to see that I had included Broxo on the napkin as he wanted Migo all to himself.

 Ansel is still quite taken with the cat Glissando from Ben Hatke's "Legends of Zita the Spacegirl" And he noticed that the utility belt is very similar to Batman's.

Ansel loves Glissando the cat from "Legends of Zita the Spacegirl" by Ben Hatke.  This means a lot, as he usually reserves his enthusiasm exclusively for dogs.

Valiant's Mouth from Giants Beware for Ansel

The mouth of Valiant from Giants Beware:  Ansel tells me that I have failed again, the mouth is simply not big enough, it should cover the entire napkin.  I pointed out that dog mouths are not rectangular, but he was unmoved by my reasoning.

We finished rereading Giants Beware last night, and Ansel wanted me to draw Valiant with a "giant mouth, like he is attacking from the napkin."  This morning he told me that the napkin was supposed to be "ALL mouth with lots of TEETH!"

Heroic dogs from last night's bedtime reading: the titular Battlepug, by Mike Norton and another appearance by Valiant from Giants Beware.  As far as my sons are concerned, the inclusion of a humorous and violent canine improves any book immeasurably.  I can see that I will need to work on my knowledge of pug anatomy if this continues.

Rereading "Giants Beware" by Jorge Aquirre and Rafael Rosado last night, the kids made me promise to preorder the sequel immediately.  Ansel told me this morning that next time he would like Valiant's mouth to be larger.
