Batman and the other Men

For #BatmanDay2016 :

The Dark Knight surrounded by other aspiring men:
Clockwise from top right: Ratman, Fatman, Gnatman, Catman, Spratman & Flatman.

Here's a link to last year's Batman Day napkin... arguably more successful...

Jellaby and Portia Watch The Bat Bat

My sons are always happy to reread the Jellaby books by Kean Soo at bedtime (and on the train on the way to school)  They have the right combination of cute and creepy for my sons's taste.

Today,  Jellaby and Portia are probably wondering why they are on a napkin with a bat wearing Batman gear (the Bat Bat as he is known around here)  Ansel was very specific that about what he wanted: instructing me that the bat should be "closer to the camera" so that he would appear larger in relation to Jellaby.

I briefly considered dressing Jellaby and Portia in Bat themed gear also, but couldn't seem to make that work.

Perhaps, as the owner of some not very useful batwings, Jellaby is just admiring the bat's flying skills -as well as his stylish cowl and utility belt?

Batman and Sonic

Ansel's complaint about this one was that it does not look like Sonic is moving fast enough.  He told me the unrealistic hedgehog should be whitish and blurry.

Bat Bulldog for Ansel

The idea of animals dressed in Bat gear continues to compel Ansel.  There was supposed to be more to this one:  something about how his secret identity is that he is actually Super Pug.  I could not quite follow it, and was pretty sure I couldn't draw it, so I went for the straightforward single character.

Bat Bat for Archer

Archer recently came to the conclusion that animals wearing Bat gear were not pathetically uncool after all.  He even apologized for "criticizing the Bat Owl napkin." If not uncool, however, the Bat bat, is certainly ridiculous.  This one is in the bank, so to speak, as we are now in between school and camp.

Bat Squirrel for Ansel

Ansel's interest in animals wearing Bat-gear continues.  Ansel says that the Bat Squirrel is saying "Really?" sarcastically to a kid who is trying to grab him, or is somehow antagonizing him- unaware that this is a skilled caped crusader... I guess.  I am not completely clear on the narrative, but the gist is that the Squirrel is in control of the situation.

Ace, Robin and Battlepug for Ansel

Ansel's instructions last night were explicit: Teen Titans Robin and Ace the Bat Hound had to be sitting on Battlepug and Robin needed to be waving his arm and saying "giddy up!" Ansel informed me this morning that the text should be in a word balloon.

Bat Owl for Archer

Archer told me this morning that he plans to hide this one in his lunchbox.  Apparently the owl is too realistic and unredeemed by the Batman reference.  While Batman is popular at home, he is not cool enough for third grade today.  Oh well.  I suspected as much, but Archer did not provide a request last night, and I needed a break from drawing Pokemon.

Ace the Bat Hound for Ansel

A return to an old favorite for Ansel: Ace the Bat Hound in his "Krypto the Superdog" incarnation.  Just remember, he is Batman's partner, not his pet.
