Minecraft Creeper Shirt

Our younger son has been wearing the same Skylanders shirt every day for months.  Unfortunately the shirt in question started out with white sleeves.  Recently, I've  had to resort to soaking these sleeves in bleach and stain remover every night, to the point where they have become frayed and almost translucent.  Of course, they are a frayed translucent dark grey, with select brown and black spots.

I'm just working up to saying that I am really enthusiastic about this child wearing another shirt....Even if I did not do a fantastic job of painting the creeper on the front. I was trying avoid covering the entire front of the shirt with stiff paint, but the result was crinkly distortion.

He wore it today.  But will he ever wear it again?

Skylanders' Hot Dog Shirt

I usually try to avoid painting an image on a shirt that might be easily purchased somewhere, but unfortunately the commercial version of the Hot Dog shirt was not available in Ansel's size.... although the photo on the lower right with the fire extinguisher and bare midriff suggests that this particular shirt may not be his size for much longer.

Ansel told me he thought the shirt was ok, although he pointed out that the best shirt I have painted for him so far was the first one with Magic the dog on it.  I'm not improving, apparently.

  

 

Wrecking Ball Shirt

A detail of the shirt without the child.  There was some debate this morning about whether Wrecking Ball's teeth should have been longer... depends which series he is from perhaps?  But I had come to the conclusion that the tongue was already pushing it a bit for Quaker Kindergarten wear, so I decided to downplay the teeth.

I finally managed to paint a shirt featuring the ever beloved Wrecking Ball and his tongue.  My son doesn't look it, but he was actually fairly pleased with the shirt.

I painted another shirt as the previous two are wearing out at the cuffs: Ansel wanted to know why Shadow's fists aren't clenched while he's running. I did not have a satisfactory reason.
As illustrated in the top photo, he was not all that impressed when he got the shirt on his body.

Ninjago Season Finale Kai with Fire Sword on a Shirt

He's been wearing the same shirt every day since September, so I did my best to come up with an alternative....or something new for him to wear constantly until the cuffs literally start to erode off of the sleeves. 

Both of the kids were just ridiculously excited about the Ninjago season finale and the new costumes and weapons...(Buy more LEGOs mom!!!)

His brother promptly requested that I paint a shirt for him with 5 Ninjago characters on it. 

Shadow Hedgehog Sweatshirt

I am not sure that Ansel will ever wear this sweatshirt out of the house.  The sleeves are a bit too long, and that is an insurmountable problem for him.  

Plus, wearing it would reveal his secret identity.  

He and I had some basic conceptual problems with this project:  Initially, I thought I was going to paint a picture of Shadow on a sweatshirt, but slowly came to understand that Ansel didn't want to wear Shadow's image.  He wanted to be Shadow.

Perhaps if the sweatshirt had one of those fancy hoods ala Volcom that zip all the way up and have perforated fabric in the eye area...but that clearly exceeded my skill.

Wind-up Knight Shirt with iPod

Wind-up Knight T-Shirt

No school tomorrow, thus, no napkins.

But I "owed" Archer a t-shirt, having painted two for his brother already.

He told me making a Wind-up Knight shirt was probably unnecessary, given the popularity of the game, he argued, commercial shirts would soon be available, and that would be better...
But mass produced Knight shirts would probably not be wearing the specific armor that he had spent his allowance on...

He has been wearing only his painted "Bulk" shirt for the last couple of weeks, so I attempted to come up with an alternative.  Magic from "Puppy in my Pocket"  is "Puppy on my T-shirt" and seems acceptable for the moment.  More durable than a napkin anyway.

Bulk for Ansel

Bulk is the wolf-like character from LEGO Hero Factory, and therefore my younger son's fixation.  

He was very critical and concerned as I was painting the shirt, but decided it was ok in the end.
