Pug and Dragon

Bi-Species Team-up inspired by Dragons Beware:

Our kids were so enthusiastic to receive the sequel to "Giants Beware," by Rafael Rosado and Jorge Aguirre, that we had a bitter struggle over who was going to get to look at the book first. Things were looking so grim that, against my  better judgement, I broke out a second copy that I had purchased for a birthday gift for a friend.

Of course now we have two sticky copies.

The mouth of Valiant from Giants Beware:  Ansel tells me that I have failed again, the mouth is simply not big enough, it should cover the entire napkin.  I pointed out that dog mouths are not rectangular, but he was unmoved by my reasoning.

We finished rereading Giants Beware last night, and Ansel wanted me to draw Valiant with a "giant mouth, like he is attacking from the napkin."  This morning he told me that the napkin was supposed to be "ALL mouth with lots of TEETH!"

Heroic dogs from last night's bedtime reading: the titular Battlepug, by Mike Norton and another appearance by Valiant from Giants Beware.  As far as my sons are concerned, the inclusion of a humorous and violent canine improves any book immeasurably.  I can see that I will need to work on my knowledge of pug anatomy if this continues.

Rereading "Giants Beware" by Jorge Aquirre and Rafael Rosado last night, the kids made me promise to preorder the sequel immediately.  Ansel told me this morning that next time he would like Valiant's mouth to be larger.

Two characters from "Giants Beware" by Jorge Aquirre and Rafael Rosado.  Both of the boys loved the book, and it had to be read completely within a 24 hour period.  Given the nicely calibrated mixture of violent adventure, cuteness and dogs, they were even able to overlook the fact that the main character is female.  As always, the strawberry does not appear in the book, and is merely a vain attempt to make the sword more appropriate for a Quaker school lunch.
