Hero Factory Guy with Extra Appendages with Claws

It has been almost two years since the last napkin with a Hero Factory figure on it. This is certainly not because the toys have gone out of style at our house.  The boys are constantly reconfiguring them, adding new appendages and weapons.

But...I am not very good at drawing them. They are complicated and perspectival, which makes them a fine showcase for certain lacks in my drawing abilities.

I like to fantasize that the nightly habit of making these napkin drawings has improved my skills over the last 8 years.  But after muddling through this one last night, I have to wonder.

(You can see the other 21 attempts at drawing Hero Factory characters at this link...if for some reason you want to do so)

Of course the napkins used to look something like this back in 2007 or 2008:

So, yes, there has been some improvement over the years. But much of it is mostly a result of time spent more than increased skill.  I fear that I might not produce a better 2 minute Sharpie sketch of Mr. Lucas today.

The camera phone I use to take the picture, however,  is much, much better.

New Rocka (Hero Factory Brain Attack)

LEGO Hero Factory's new Rocka from the perhaps infelicitously named "Brain Attack" series: Ansel is so looking forward to receiving this one for his birthday that he could overlook the pink background.  I am running low on markers that are suitable for use in a background... and the pink does contrast nicely with the green accessories.

LEGO Hero Factory Rocka and Double Pincher

Mercifully, it has been a while since I've had to tangle with the drafting challenge of miscellaneous Hero Factory figures.  I don't think I rose to the challenge on this one.

Some version of Rocka faces off against Ansel's creation: the "Double Pincher" bad guy.  I was not sure if there was a head, or even how many appendages were in play, and as a result, things are pretty unclear on the napkin.

Bulk and Puppy for Ansel

Bulk from Lego Hero Factory holds an unnamed, and probably not pleased, puppy.  It was late, so I could not decide whether the intersection of Hero Factory fangs and puppy skull was fortuitous or merely unfortunate.  Ansel was quite peeved that Bulk's entire head is not included.

Bulk for Ansel

Yet another Bulk from Lego Hero Factory.  Ansel originally rejected this image as "looking too much like a monkey."  A week later (and after some threats that perhaps his brother would take it to school instead) he decided it was not all bad.

Rocka for Archer

Rocka from Hero Factory apparently just never loses his appeal for our older son, even when it is not one of my better efforts.

Water Skiing Furno for Ansel

Ansel inexplicably requested Furno from Hero Factory water skiing.  The character certainly does some underwater heroing in the latest adventures, but as far as I know, skiing is not in his repertoire.

Bulk on Furno's Bike for Ansel

Bulk from Hero Factory riding Furno's bike.  This is the latest, most coveted, excruciatingly expensive LEGO item about which I am being nagged incessantly.  It appears that we might be able to acquire the disassembled used parts on ebay for a not totally ridiculous price....but the threat of missing pieces is daunting.

Rocka 6.0 for Archer

The weekend brought more painful drawing of Hero Factory characters, although perhaps not as painful as the continuous requests for purchasing them.

Bulk With Cubed Carrot and Weapons for Ansel

Ansel wailed for much of the ride to school, "MOM! Why did you have to draw a CUBED CARROT?? I want a STRAWBERRY!!"  Here I was thinking that there were too many strawberries and pieces of broccoli impaled on various weapons on these napkins.

Bulk for Ansel

Ansel was devastated to discover that I had not included Bulk's "plasma shield."
I asked him what that would look like and he replied, exasperated, "You have to imagine it!"

Black Phantom for Ansel

I was waiting to hear the complaints after school about how I made the background pink behind the scary LEGO bad guy.
